Call to ease parking woes at health clinic

As a resident of Kampong Sengkurong, the Jubli Perak Sengkurong Health Centre is the designated clinic for our health check-ups and medical appointments.

Though I have no qualms over the service, one thing that annoys me everytime I need to go there is finding a parking spot. With the clinic catering to residents from 12 villages within the Mukim Sengkurong catchment area, the quest to find a vacant parking spot can be a nightmare, especially during peak hours.

It gets worse when inconsiderate drivers park at any convenient spot leaving a tight space for other cars to manoeuvre.

There are also instances where the driver would block other cars leaving their phone numbers on the windscreen.

The newly constructed building next to the clinic would provide an extension to accommodate the growing number of patients, which would be an added problem if there are no plans to build a new parking lot.

The clinic actually provides a free shuttle service where the public can leave their vehicles at the parking space of the Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque in Kampong Sengkurong and the bus would ferry them to the clinic and back to the mosque.

Upon knowing this, I was eager to make use of the shuttle service to overcome the misery of trying to find a vacant parking space at the clinic. The good news was that there was definitely a 22-seater bus and a smaller mini van parked under a tent. The bad news was that no drivers were in sight.

I decided to wait for a while giving the benefit of the doubt that the driver might be waiting for passengers from inside of the mosque. After a good 10 minutes of waiting idly in my car, I gave up and made my way to the clinic.

I hope the authorities would come up with a more viable solution in overcoming the parking woes at the Sengkurong clinic.
