Lately, I have been seeing a lot of local news on child abuse, with the latest being a 34-year-old father who has been jailed for sexually abusing his 12-year-old daughter.
As a father of a toddler, I cannot imagine the warped worldview of the man. The only parental instinct I have is to protect my daughter from the dangers of the world. Imagine being raised by a man, who is also the source of despair and diminishing trust in others.
I am glad to learn that the man has been jailed and caned for his crime. However, is a six-year jail term enough to rehabilitate a perverse individual? How about the trauma he had put his own daughter through? It is very likely that the girl would be spending the rest of her life getting over the attack on her innocence. Will she ever trust men again?
These news make me horrified that we live in a world full of predators. I hope studies can be done to figure out why there are so many of them in our society, so we can try to keep those with perverse tendencies from giving in to their urges.
