I agree with the letter, ‘Call for end to reckless driving in residential areas’, published in the Opinion page of the Bulletin on February 26.
I would like to extend my condolences to the writer for what happened to the dog.
I also empathise with the writer’s predicament as I have the same anxiety over the garbage truck driver in my neighbourhood.
I tend to wake up around 4-4.30am, which is around the same time the garbage truck shows up to pick up our trash.
Once, I had to leave my car by the side of the road because my home was under renovation. It worried me that my car would be hit due to the way the driver navigated our area. So I ended up waking up earlier than usual to keep watch, which was stressful.
Like the writer, I would like to call on garbage truck operators as well as motorists to practise safe driving in general and especially in residential areas. Even when it’s during a time when you don’t expect foot traffic, you might accidentally run over someone’s pet.
