His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office has urged the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) to set up incentive programmes for the continuous enhancement of Al-Quran recitation and memorisation skills.
“It is essential for the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, as well as the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), to establish and expand incentive schemes or programmes which continuously nurture and enhance Al-Quran recitation and memorisation skills,” said His Royal Highness in a sabda delivered at ITQSHHB’s 8th Haflut Takharruj (Convocation Ceremony) for the ‘Aaliyah Qira’at Diploma Programme yesterday.
His Royal Highness said, “Such schemes or programmes, if held in an orderly manner, would definitely provide beneficial exposure for the graduates to gain long-term perspective in exploring greater opportunities for developing and sharing their respective knowledge.
“This is not solely confined to the field of memorisation, but also includes leadership skills, in addition to initiating measures and strategies for the development of Al-Quran sciences, particularly those which bring great benefits to the general community.
“In view of this, there are wide opportunities for the graduates to continue in the role of charitable (berjiwa tinggi) and competitive community leaders, by broadening their respective abilities and potential through observance of the direct and indirect lessons in Al-Quran, as a guidance and direction for holistic living as a nation and society.”
Earlier, His Royal Highness said, “Our noble intention is to produce a generation of Huffaz who contribute directly towards the excellence of the institute, particularly in producing yet more generations of Kalamullah caretakers in this country, through relevant programmes that emphasise integrated and balanced learning methods according to the changing times and their demands.
“It is hoped that what was learned throughout the ‘Aaliyah Qira’at Diploma programme will continue to be developed, propagated and practised so that the benefits can be enjoyed by the general public, particularly within the aims and aspirations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to foster an Al-Quran-literate generation, in conjunction with the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults of 1436 Hijrah.
“What is meant by fostering an Al-Quran-literate generation? It means to produce an Al-Quran-literate generation that is literate in every sense. They are literate in terms of being able to recite and then required, if possible, to become expert in all fields of knowledge related to Al-Quran. That is the most ideal meaning of fostering an Al-Quran-literate generation.
“This falls in line with His Majesty’s titah at the launching of Knowledge Convention 2008 and in conjunction with the 30th National Day celebration, where His Majesty expressed a strong determination to see Brunei Darussalam as a Zikir Nation and Baldatun Tayyibatun Warabbun Ghafur in terms of developing the nation and life with matters deemed good and great by Allah the Almighty, as well as by humanity, in addition to becoming a nation which is always prosperous and content under the protection of Allah the Almighty.”
