The Ministry of Education (MoE) through the Department of Educators Management held its first Education Specialists Seminar themed, ‘Contemporary Specialisation in Educational Practices towards Education Excellence’.
The seminar focussed on ‘Curriculum and Innovation Towards Education Excellence’ as a sub-theme. The two-day seminar began at the Chancellor Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) yesterday.
Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman officiated.
The seminar aimed to provide opportunities for educators to develop capacity and competencies in various areas of educational specialisation in line with 21st Century skills as well as promote network of collaboration and professional learning community in improving the competencies of specialist educators.
The seminar began with welcoming remarks by Acting Director of the Department of Educators Management, MoE Masdiah binti Haji Tuah, as the Chairperson of the 2021 Education Specialists Seminar.
A keynote address entitled ‘Curriculum Reform and Innovation Towards Education Excellence: Singapore’s Lessons’ was delivered by Professor Zongyi Deng from the University College London (UCL).
Sharing sessions from the MoE’s Acting Director of Curriculum Department on ‘Curriculum Design’ as well as from the Head of Education Technology Centre on ‘Blended Learning using SAMR Model’ were also held.
In the afternoon session, Acting Director of Educators Management shared six areas of specialisation identified in the education system.
This was followed by a sharing session on ‘Generic Competency and Training Progression for Education Specialists’ and ‘Training Needs Analysis Survey for Education Specialists’ by the Head of the Specialist Unit, Brunei Darussalam Leadership and Teacher Academy (BDLTA).
Deputy Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Permanent Secretaries (Higher and Core Education), Vice-Chancellor of UBD, Rector of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), and Deputy Permanent Secretaries (Higher and Core Education) were also present.
A total of 106 educators identified as potential education specialists were invited as participants.
