BSBIA hosts cultural gathering to mark Indian Independence Day

THE Bandar Seri Begawan Indian Association (BSBIA) yesterday held a cultural gathering as part of celebrations marking the 71st Independence Day of India.

The event, held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, began with welcoming speeches from 2017 Indian Independence Day Celebrations Committee Chairman NR Murugesan and BSBIA President Dr Sundrapandi.

This was followed by the lighting of a lamp by Indian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nagma M Mallick, who also delivered a speech.

The event also witnessed Dr Sundrapandi being presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Nagma M Mallick, for his 22 years of service in Brunei, including his roles as President of the BSBIA, President of the Hindu Welfare Board and the Vice-President of the Brunei-India Friendship Association (BIFA).

A cultural programme followed, showcasing classical and traditional Indian dances.
