The Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department Law Enforcement Division issued 301 compound fines amounting to BND46,000 last year on 90 locals, 152 foreigners and 59 companies under Section 12 of the Minor Offences Act (Chapter 30), statistics revealed.
Meanwhile, Law Enforcement Unit personnel levied compound fines of BND200 on two local companies for dumping used tyres and an air conditioning gas tank in a public area in Batu Bersurat and Serusop violating Section 12(1)(b) of the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30.
Two individuals who disposed cigarette butts in a public area in Kiulap were also slapped with a BND100 fine each for violating Section 12 (1) (a), Chapter 30 of the Minor Offences Act.
The offenders were locals Philip Tan Lie Huat and Chiew Sze Wern.
The offenders have to settle the fines within seven days at the Finance Division, third floor of the BSB Municipal Department. Failure to do so would result in a further fine of BND1,000 or a month’s imprisonment for the first convicted offence. For subsequent offences, the penalty is a BND3,000 fine and a prison term of up to three months.
