Four elite Bruneian trail runners will proudly represent the nation at the prestigious Southeast Asian Trail Running Cup 2024, held in Bontoc Mountain Province, Manila, Philippines, from June 20-23, 2024.
The Bruneian team departed for the Philippines on Wednesday, comprising Ibni Nudin, Muhammad Ajmal Azman Sudin, Nur Hidayat Metussin, and Amirul Tuah.
Invited by the Philippines Trail Running Association (PhilTra) through the Brunei Adventure Recreation Association (BARA), the team will participate in this challenging regional trail running event. The Elite competition is by invitation only, with participants fielded by member trail running associations from Southeast Asia.
Ibni Nudin and Muhammad Ajmal Azman Sudin will compete in the Mountain Classic (12.32 km with an 869-meter elevation gain) and Vertical Uphill (5.11 km with an 805-meter elevation gain) categories. Meanwhile, Amirul Tuah and Nur Hidayat Metussin will take on the grueling Short Trail race spanning 36.49 km.
The Southeast Asian Trail Running Cup is an annual event that brings together the top trail runners from across Southeast Asia to compete in various ultra-distance trail running races amid some of the region’s most beautiful and challenging natural landscapes.
The open category for this competition will feature long trail (80 km), short trail (42 km), mountain trail (25 km), and vertical trail (5 km) races across the mountainous terrain of Bontoc.
Seven countries and nearly 200 athletes have confirmed participation in this year’s edition, hosted by the Philippines. – ADIB NOOR
