Public Affairs Officer at the United States (US) Embassy in Brunei Darussalam Jeffrey Barrus commended Brunei government and its people for bringing the COVID-19 pandemic under control in the country bringing hope of normalcy for the rest of the world.
He said this during his welcoming reception at The Rizqun International Hotel. The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) members, Brunei-US Association (BUSA) members and officials from several government agencies and private sectors were present.
Barrus said, “I am excited to be the Public Affairs Officer at the US Embassy in Brunei Darussalam. Together with my team, I am really looking forward to continue our engagement with the Bruneian community. I am also very optimistic of what we can accomplish together.”
On the COVID-19 situation, he said “I think we need to recognise how challenging this year has been for all of us. Our programmes have certainly been impacted and in the public affairs section, our team has been forced to improvise with creative virtual programmes and smaller in person’s events.”
Despite the pandemic, he said, “The relationship between our countries continues to grow.
We have over 300 Bruneians who are alumni of our exchange programme and they are, in a sense, diplomats and can help strengthen the US and Brunei relations.”
