The Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam hosted a certificate presentation yesterday for Bruneians who passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), conducted on December 6 last year.

Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman; Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam Eiji Yamamoto, in his capacity as the representative of the JLPT committee; and Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) Pengiran Dr Mohd Iskandar bin Pengiran Haji Petra handed over certificates to the examinees, while encouraging them to continue studying the language.

The JLPT has been offered by the Japan Foundation since 1984 as a reliable means of evaluating and certifying the proficiency of non-native Japanese speakers.

In Brunei, the JLPT was launched in 2008, and has been held every December. Last year, 40 participants took the JLPT across a range of language levels from N1 to N5 and 21 people passed.

The JLPT 2021 will be held on December 5, 2021, and applications will be open from August to September.
