Bruneian takes fourth at Al-Quran reading contest

Bruneian Dayangku Siti Ummi Syazana binti Pengiran Haji Marjuki clinched fourth spot at the 62nd International Al-Quran Reading and Memorisation Competition held from October 19 to 24 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

She scored 84.83 per cent and walked away with MYR12,000 prize money, a trophy and a certificate.

Dayangku Siti Ummi Syazana was the champion at the national Al-Quran reading competition for adults two years ago.

She was participating in the international competition for the first time. In addition, she has also won the national level Al-Quran reading competition for youth.

Besides Dayangku Siti Ummi Syazana, Brunei Darussalam was represented in the male category by Mohammad bin Ali.

Present at the Brunei International Airport on Wednesday to welcome them was Acting Director of Administration at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) Mohammad Sofian bin Haji Basri as representative of the Permanent Secretary at the MoRA.

Also present were directors, heads of departments, senior officers, officers and staff at the Islamic Eminence Division, MoRA.

The competitors were accompanied by delegation manager and voice and tune guidance teacher Haji Mohd Zainul Ariffin bin Haji Ridwan Lubis, as well as Tajwid and Fasahah guidance teacher Haji Muhammad Termizi bin Haji Mahmood.
