Brunei Wanderers emerge champions of Sabah veteran meet

Brunei Wanderers emerged champions in the grandmasters 55 years category of the inaugural Mimpaagat Borneo 9s Veteran Football Invitational Tournament at the Penampang Sports Complex in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah last weekend.

The local veteran team claimed the title by goal difference ahead of second placed team Blue Kondiu.

Brunei Wanderers began the first round unbeaten with two wins and one draw, accumulating seven points to top the four-team group.

The team advanced to the cup competition and recorded five points to end the group with the coveted grandmasters title.

Organised by the Mimpaagat Tokou Sabah Recreation Club, a total of 18 local and overseas teams took part.

The competition also featured a Masters 45 years category, which was won by King United led by former Malaysian international Chow Chee Weng.

The next edition of the tournament will be held on May 27 and 28, 2023 in conjunction with the Harvest Festival month.
