    Brunei veteran athletes haul 15 medals in international meet

    The Brunei Association of Veteran Athletes (PVAB) did the country proud after collecting a haul of 15 medals including three gold, seven silver and five bronze in the Kuala Lumpur International Masters Athletics Championships 2022 at University Malaya Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia over the weekend.

    Brunei veteran athlete Haji Ariffin bin Abdullah led the medal rush with two golds in the long jump and triple jump events, silver in the 200 metres (m) event and bronze in the 400m event.

    Marznimurney bin Abdullah was the other gold medallist in the 3,000m run event to go with his two silver medals in the 800m and 1,500m events, as well as bronze in the 400m event.

    Female athlete Hajah Mariah Haji Metussin copped two silver medals in the shot put and discus events and one bronze in the javelin event.

    Haji Safri @ Tiang bin Haji Mudin also contributed with a silver in the long jump event and bronze in the triple jump event, while Siti Diah binti Jani snatched bronze in the javelin event.

    Pengiran Amir Isa bin Pengiran Sabtu also won silver in the long jump event. Earlier on Saturday, the country’s first medal in the regional meet came through Hajah Mariah after winning silver in the shot-put event.

    The association sent 14 national veteran athletes to the regional meet, competing across 34 track and field events.

    The competition was organised by the Malaysian Masters Athletic Association (MMAA) with the cooperation of Malaysia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports.
