Brunei Darussalam will be observing the new Islamic year of 1443 Hijrah next Monday in a grand manner to widen and spread the teachings of Islam in the country besides glorifying the historical event of migration of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) from Makkah Al-Mukarramah to Madinah Al-Munawwarah.
The national-level religious event, themed ‘Knowledgeable and Pious Youth, Catalyst for a Blessed Nation’, will be held simultaneously at all mosques and religious halls, with special focus on the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong, the RPN Kampong Pandan Mosque in Kuala Belait, the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Pekan Tutong and the Utama Mohammad Salleh Mosque in Pekan Bangar.
Among the main highlights will be special prayers to mark the end of 1442 Hijrah and usher in 1443 Hijrah, along with a Tazkirah.
A rehearsal took place at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah yesterday to ensure the smooth running of the occasion, witnessed by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, in his capacity as Chairman of the Executive Committee for Major Islamic Calendar Events for 1443 Hijrah; Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud; Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar; and Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Suhaili bin Haji Mohiddin.
Government officials and the public are welcomed to attend the event and are advised to adhere to the guidelines to curb the spread of COVID-19, safety protocols and standard operating procedure such as scanning BruHealth QR Code upon entering and leaving the premises. Congregants are encouraged to perform ablution before visiting the mosque.
They are also required to wear a face mask, use their own large-sized prayer mat, check body temperature before entering the mosque, sanitise hands, perform social distancing and avoid shaking hands.
Only individuals with green and yellow BruHealth codes are allowed to attend. Individuals who have symptoms such as fever, cough, cold, and respiratory problems are not allowed to attend.
A prize presentation to infants born on the 1st of Muharram, 1443 Hijrah will also be held to enliven the celebration.
