Brunei team off to China to show off sailing skills

FIVE sailing team members skippered by Michael Tan left the country yesterday to participate in the 2nd Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta from December 6-9.

Accompanying the delegation was President of Brunei Darussalam Yachting Association (BDYA) Dato Paduka Haji Idris bin Haji Abas.

The event is organised to promote the sport in Guangzhou, China and also promote the historical and cultural links of the Maritime Silk
Route.

Seven participants including from Brunei, Singapore, Russia, Thailand, India, Hong Kong and host country China will participate in the Championship Race. All team members will race using Fareast 26 design keelboats provided by the organiser.

Dato Paduka Haji Idris said, “This will be a very good opportunity for BDYA to represent Brunei in promoting the sport of sailing especially to rejuvenate keelboat sailing in our country.”

He also expressed his appreciation to the supporting partners; Lexus Brunei and BruSafety.

Brunei Darussalam Yachting Association is a member of the World Sailing and Asian Sailing Federation and the accredited association by the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council in promoting the sport of sailing in Brunei Darussalam.
