One of the leading global providers of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, Huawei launched Asia-Pacific Seeds for the Future 2022 in collaboration with the ASEAN Foundation and Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) during a ceremony in Thailand last week.

The programme brought together 120 outstanding students from 16 Asia-Pacific countries including two from Brunei Darussalam for a nine day digital boot camp in Thailand.

The students are Lim Zhi Jian @ Nathan, an undergraduate in Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and Aunizafirah Batrisyia binti Agus Zamri, an undergraduate student in Bachelor of Media and Communication Technology, Faculty of Islamic Technology of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali.

It is hoped that the boot camp will help participants to gain a better understanding in technologies and cross cultural experience as well as propose technical solutions to address social problems in Tech4Good projects. According to Bangkok Post report, the participants will team up and create Tech4Good pitch to share their visions for a better digital world.

The winning team will be awarded a place in an accelerator camp from August 29 to September 4 providing a chance to meet leading entrepreneurs and investors to further develop their ideas to the market.

Huawei Asia-Pacific’s President Simon Lin during the ceremony said, The Seeds represent hope, passion and future. As the corporate level flagship CSR project with the longest history, this programme has reached 12,000 students from 500 universities.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce of Thailand Jurin Laksanawisit welcomed the initiative of Huawei and said, “At present, the public and private sectors are working together to increase ICT personnel to keep up with changing trends.”

He believed that co-training with leading specialised companies such as Huawei will enhanced the quality of education and is an excellent step for advancing digital development at strengthening the economy to international level.
