BRUNEI Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore reaffirmed their special and long-standing bilateral defence ties during the 7th Defence Policy Dialogue held between both countries at The Rizqun International Hotel yesterday.
The dialogue was co-chaired by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah and Permanent Secretary (Defence) at the Ministry of Defence for the Republic of Singapore Chan Yeng Kit.
The dialogue was also attended by military and civilian officials from both sides.
Apart from discussing a wide range of regional and security issues, both co-chairs made affirmation to their commitment in further enhancing bilateral defence cooperation.
Later, Chan Yeng Kit paid a courtesy call on Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof. Also present during the courtesy call was Singapore High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Lim Hong Huai.
During the courtesy call, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi commended the dialogue as an excellent avenue to promote the bilateral defence relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore.
Chan Yeng Kit visited the RBAF Defence Academy in Kampong Tanah Jambu on Tuesday, where he was welcomed by Commandant of the RBAF Defence Academy Colonel Haji Muhd Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan.
Initiated in 2009, the Defence Policy Dialogue between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore is aimed at fostering defence cooperation through discussion and information-sharing, as well as exploring new areas of practical cooperation.
