James Kon

The 8th Singapore-Brunei Youth Leadership Exchange Programme (SBYLEP), jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and Singapore’s National Youth Council (NYC) under the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and carried out by the Brunei Youth Council (BYC), is currently in session until November 22.

SBYLEP aims to encourage exchanges among future youth leaders, aged 22 to 35, from various professional backgrounds.

The programme is also aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries by promoting understanding and solidarity among youth leaders.

The 8th SBYLEP, themed ‘Increasing Youth Empowerment in the Post-Pandemic Era’, focusses on challenges in adapting to the new normal, uncertain economic conditions, changes in education, employment and the climate causing mental health issues.

The programme will see the 30 participants visit places of interest, such as IAM Food, Kampong Batu Apoi Village Consultative Council (MPK), Sumbiling Eco Village and Kampong Ayer.

Activities, such as group discussions, seminars and workshops, will also be held.

Permanent Secretary (Youth) at the MCYS Haji Zakaria bin Haji Serudin attended a luncheon with participants from both countries.
