Brunei sees record daily new cases

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Brunei surpassed 2,000 yesterday after the Sultanate reported a record daily high of 326 new cases including three new clusters.

This was revealed by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar during the daily press conference yesterday.

The minister said there are 61 additional cases to 19 active clusters.

The three new clusters are: Pusat Al-Islah Cluster with 128 cases, Serambangun Industrial Park Cluster with 25 cases; and Cluster 5532 with eight cases. This brings the total active clusters to 106.

Some 104 cases are being investigated to determine the sources of infection.

The minister said, “One hundred and sixty-six cases have recovered today bringing the number of recovered cases to 4,188 while the active cases are 2,054.”

Among the cases receiving treatment at the National Isolation Centre, eight are in Category 5 requiring artificial ventilation with one case requiring the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Thirty-one cases are categorised in Category 4 requiring oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.

“In the past 24 hours, 4,487 samples were tested for SARS-CoV-2 virus bringing the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 330,478,” said the minister.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah was also present.
