Bruneian sailor Jeremiah Tan from the Royal Brunei Yacht Club made his international debut at the 2023 Singapore Youth Sailing Championship organised by the Singapore Sailing Federation.
The event held at National Sailing Centre from March 11 to 14 saw almost 300 sailors from Brazil, China, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States is the biggest youth sailing event in the region.
Tan participated in the ILCA class and finished with the 16th place on the leaderboard.
Royal Brunei Yacht Club High Performance Sailing Coach Hanna Afendy said she is proud of Tan’s result as he has put in a lot of hours into his training in a variety of conditions. She added that there’s room for improvement and she will continue to work with Tan on a few areas and focus on his tactics and strategy with hopes he can compete in represent the Sultanate in the World Youth Championship.
