Brunei Darussalam men’s and women’s hockey teams made a long-awaited return to the international scene after more than two years of absence as the country hosted the 2020 FIH Test Matches against Singapore at the National Hockey Centre of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.

The national women’s hockey team, ranked 75th in the world, slipped to a 9-0 defeat in their second test match against highly-ranked Singapore, who are ranked 39th.

Singapore raced to a 3-0 lead in the first period through Xinni Chua, Hajaratih Johana and Valerie Sim.

Phylicia Tanandika made it 4-0 through a penalty corner in the 21st minute before Rifqah Sanip added a fifth for her team in the 33rd minute.

Valerie got her second of the game after combining well with a teammate in the 44th minute.

Just a minute later, Rifqah scored her second goal of the game before Laura Tan found the target in the 51st minute.

Phylicia completed the scoring for the visitors with the ninth goal of the game through a field goal in the 56th minute. The national women’s hockey team, also known as the Stingers, previously hosted the Women’s Asia Hockey Challenge in 2017.

Singapore registered successive victories for the men’s and women’s hockey teams including their first test matches last Friday.
