Brunei records new daily high of 83 COVID cases

Brunei Darussalam today recorded the highest spike of COVID-19 cases in a single day, with 83 cases, and added two new clusters and 32 cases of unknown source of infection. 

With the new cases, the national tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 723, Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Md Isham bin Haji Jaafar said at a press conference.

The additional cases to the active clusters include 29 cases for Chung Hua KB Cluster, 6 cases for the 477 Cluster, 4 cases for Immigration Cluster, 3 cases for Champion 7 Cluster, one case for TOTAL Cluster and one case for BSP HQ Cluster. 

One of the new clusters reported today is Cluster 495, which links to Case 646 and Case 652 which are related to Case 495 that was reported on 12 August 2021 and Case 618 that was reported on 14 August 2021.

The other cluster is Cluster 535, linked to Case 649 and related to Case 535 that was reported on 12 August 2021 and Case 616 that was reported on 13 August 2021. 

Four new imported cases have been reported today in which all arrived in Brunei Darussalam from Manila on 01 August 2021 on flight Royal Brunei BI684.

The cases in the active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.

Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.

The Minister of Health also updated that there is no cases who are treated at the National Isolation Centre have recovered today bringing the total of recovered cases to remain at 330 cases which  means that there is a total of 391 active cases have been recorded in Brunei Darussalam. Among the active cases, two are in critical condition requiring respiratory assistance while two other cases are under close monitoring at the National Isolation Centre.
