Brunei-Muara has highest number of Muslim converts

The Brunei-Muara District recorded the highest number of new Muslim converts at 76 from January to May 2020, Statistics from the Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI) showed.

This was followed by 48 for the Tutong District, 22 for the Belait District and one for the Temburong District.

Out of the total, 94 are local while 53 are non-locals. The Dusun ethnic group comprises the largest number of the new converts (52), followed by the Chinese (27), Iban (24), Filipino (23), Murut (eight), European (one), Bisaya (one) and other races (11).

The statistics also showed that 78 of them are women while 69 were men.

The PDI provides support for new converts in their journey to appreciate the teachings of Islam, by conducting basic and advanced classes, introductory courses and mobile guidance.

Upon embracing the Islamic faith, converts are required to undergo a 10-day guidance course, during which they learn about the five pillars of Islam and the six articles of faith, apart from how to observe the obligatory prayers and reciting Al-Quran.
