Brunei-Kuching flights return after two-year break

Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) announced the recommencement of its flights to Kuching, Sarawak, that began operation on May 1 with RB flight number BI855.

“Brunei and Sarawak has a long history of close ties and family relations, thus Team RB is very excited to provide and offer our customers and guests to finally reconnect with their families and loved ones since the closure of borders during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our loyal customers will be able to celebrate this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri with their families and loved ones together. We, at RB, are glad that we can contribute to this reunion and we hope we can do more reunion stories and see a much-needed growth throughout our network.

“Since the temporary suspension of Kuching flights in 2020, we now have reviewed and revamped our booking and check-in system and our guest should see a simplification of these processes, be it online through our www.flyroyalbrunei.com website or at the airport counters. Over the next few months, RB will be re-introducing our network back to our guests, so be sure to check-out our website for the latest offers and new flights. The whole of RB and our award-winning, world-renowned cabin crew are looking forward to welcoming everyone on board again.

“I would like to thank Brunei Tourism Board and the Sarawak Tourism Board to have assisted to make this flight happened, and of course our much-valued customers for flying with us again,” said Acting Chief Executive Officer Captain Sabirin bin Haji Abdul Hamid.

Greeting guests as RB flight BI855 arrived at Kuching International Airport were Sarawak Tourism Board CEO Sharzede binti Datu Salleh Askor and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s Kuching International Airport Senior Airport Manager Ir Jun Iskandar bin Haji Murshidi.

Sharzede said, “We welcome the recommencement of RB flights to Kuching. We will continue to work closely with the airlines to enhance the connectivity of both destinations to boost the regional market coming to Sarawak.

“We believe that the recent announcement of new relaxed COVID-19 SOPs by the Ministry of Health starting May 1 is timely with the transition to the endemic phase. This move will further attract visitors to come over to Sarawak and revive the industry.”

RB previously operated daily flights to Kuching, which was put on hold due to border restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. As part of its flight operations relaunch, from May 1, RB operates twice-weekly flights (Thursdays and Saturdays) to Kuching on its A320NEO aircraft.
