Brunei, India to strengthen bilateral ties

The eighth Foreign Office Consultation between India and Brunei were held in Bandar Seri Begawan yesterday with the two sides reviewing the entire gamut of bilateral relations and discussing ways to strengthen cooperation including in trade, commerce, investments, defence and space.

Secretary (East) of India’s Ministry of External Affairs Saurabh Kumar and Permanent Secretary (Politics and International Organisations) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pengiran Norhashimah binti Pengiran Mohd Hassan, co-chaired the meeting.

The delegation also agreed to explore collaborations in information and communications technology, agriculture, health, pharma, maritime, culture, and people to people exchanges.

Views were also exchanged on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

It was also agreed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations in 2024 and strengthen high level exchanges. The two sides will also conclude at an early date the memorandum of understanding under discussion. The Secretary (East) also called on Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof and Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha.

The next round of consultations will be held in New Delhi.
