Brunei clinched third place at the 9th Regional ASEAN Quiz 2020 held virtually yesterday. In first place was Indonesia followed by Singapore.
The three students representing the country were the top three winners of the 9th National Level ASEAN Quiz organised last month: Year 9 student from Chung Hwa Middle School Phoebe Lim Tong Xin in top spot, Year 10 student from Sayyidina Hasan Secondary School Mohamad Azeem Fahmi bin Haji Mohamad Asmayuddin in second place and Year 10 student from Chung Ching Middle School Chong Rui Ern in third.
The online competition was conducted at the Information Department with Singapore as the organising country.
It began with welcoming remarks by Foo Chi Hsia, Assistant Chief Executive of International Group at Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA).
Acting Director of Information Haji Shahrul Jeffri bin Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim, as the Chairperson of Information Sub-Committee of Asean-COCI (Committee on Culture and Information) Brunei Darussalam, along with Acting Director of Co-Curriculum Education Hajah Hajidah binti Haji Abdul Wahab, senior government officers, school principals, parents and guardians also attended.
Haji Shahrul Jeffri as Co-Chairperson of the 9th National Level ASEAN Quiz, presented the prizes.
The event aimed to instil a spirit of competition among ASEAN youth and expose them to cultural, political, economic and social aspects of ASEAN.
Nine ASEAN member states competed this year, excluding the Philippines.
The quiz is held once every two years and is one of the ASEAN Committee projects on ASEAN Culture and Information launched in 2002.
ASEAN member states organise the quiz on a rotational basis.
