Brunei Go team excels in Japan event

Awangku Mohd Haidar bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Alimin and Wong Hui Xin did the country proud when they claimed third place in Group D of the 32nd International Amateur Pair Go Championship in Tokyo, Japan recently. 

The pair competed in the World Pair Go Official Handicap Tournament, one of the two sub-events, outside of the World Students Championship. As third place winners, they received JPY15,000.

The tournament attracted 154 Go players from 27 countries and territories.

According to Awangku Mohd  Haidar, “The competition gave me a different perspective when playing with a partner.

“I learnt a lot and made new friends from different countries. As a team, we performed well. If given the opportunity, we would participate again.”
