Brunei Darussalam tennis team finished second in Pool ‘B’ of the 2022 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group IV after recording two victories in three matches at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association Courts in Colombo, Sri Lanka last Thursday.

The national team secured a 2-1 victory over Maldives in their final group match to set up a meeting with Kyrgyzstan in the third- and fourth-place playoff today.

Brunei playing team captain Billy Wong Kee Loong got his country’s first point of the series after a 6-1 6-1 victory over Maldives’ Aiham Shiyam.

The team captain continued his impressive form in the meet having only dropped three games in his last two singles’ ties.

Brunei’s Mohd Aiman Abdullah lost 1-6, 6-2, 1-6 against Abdulla Faaih Fazeel, allowing Maldives to square the best-of-three match.

However, Brunei led by the pairing of Mohd Aiman and Wong emerged victorious in the decisive third match with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Maldives’ duo of Abdulla Faaih and Hussain Nasif.

Earlier in the competition, Brunei fell to a 3-0 loss to eventual group winners Iraq before bouncing back with a historic 2-1 victory over Yemen.
