Brunei Darussalam national under-16 team endured a heavy 7-0 defeat at the hands of the People’s Republic of China in Group ‘G’ of the 2020 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-16 Qualifiers at the Madya Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia yesterday.

China’s Fan Chao evaded the challenge of his marker before drilling home a low effort into the bottom corner past the Brunei Darussalam goalkeeper to give his side the opening goal of the game.

China’s young star He Xioke flicked the ball away from a Brunei player in midfield to put him on the charge before setting up Fan Chao on the outside who had the goalkeeper in his sights.

The forward lifted the ball above the goalkeeper to double his side’s lead.

Xioke was not only China’s goal scorer for the third goal but also the chief instigator in the build-up, with two-goal hero Chao turning provider.

The forward got his second goal of the game after connecting with a cross from a teammate in the hour mark.

China’s substitute Gao Jingchun got in the act with a wonderful volley to make it 5-0 lead for the young Team Dragon.

Xioke completed his hat-trick after latching onto a fine ball, which was driven in to the near post from a teammate three minutes from time.

Zeng Yaozhang compounded Brunei’s misery in the end after a low finish in injury time, having intercepted a defensive header from a Brunei defender.

The young Wasps will next face the Northern Mariana Islands tomorrow while China meet the Philippines next Wednesday.
