Brunei Darussalam contingent ended their campaign at the 11th ASEAN Para Games 2022 with an overall medal haul of one gold, one silver and three bronze in Solo, Indonesia yesterday.
Brunei’s solitary gold medal in the multi-sport showpiece was won by Hirdan bin Haji Abdul Kadir in the men’s shotput F56 event.
The national athlete produced a best score of 8.44 points in the final round. It was the perfect response for the national para athlete having settled for silver in the men’s discus throw and bronze in the men’s javelin throw during the previous edition in Kuala Lumpur in 2017.
He also claimed the silver medal in the men’s javelin F56 event after accumulating a score of 20.45 points.
Compatriot Shari bin Haji Juma’at secured his second bronze medal in the men’s discus throw F54-F55 event, having already earned a place in the podium in the men’s javelin throw F54-F55 event.
Zainul Wardi bin Haji Tarip also contributed to the medal haul in para athletics with bronze in the men’s discus throw F35- F37 event.
The Sultanate sent a 22-member contingent to compete in three events namely para athletics, para badminton and para swimming.
The ASEAN Para Games drew to a close with a closing ceremony at the Stadium Manahan in Solo last night.
