Brunei detects 193 new COVID-19 cases, three new clusters

Brunei Darussalam yesterday detected 193 new COVID-19 cases including three new clusters, bringing the national tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 9,665.

The latest COVID-19 situation in the Sultanate was shared by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar during the daily press conference yesterday.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said, “There are 33 additional new cases to 11 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.

“The three new clusters, all from accommodations including Excapade KB Cluster, involved 21 cases. There are also 139 new cases being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

“Meanwhile, Clusters 2089, 4009, and 4321 have been closed following no new cases detected for 28 days. The total number of active clusters now stand at 163.” On the latest number of recoveries, he said, “218 cases have recovered, bringing the total number of recovered cases in the Sultanate to 7,315, while the total number of active cases is 2,284.

“Seven are in Category 5 and receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit requiring artificial ventilation, with two cases requiring the help of additional heart/lung machine (ECMO).

“Twenty-six cases are categorised in Category 4 requiring oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring. In the past 24 hours, 6,357 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus bringing the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 419,526.”

On the progress of vaccination nationwide, he said, “On Tuesday, 5,051 individuals received the COVID-19 vaccine. Under the National Vaccination Programme, 335,650 individuals, or 74 per cent of the population have received the first dose, while 216,615 individuals, or 47.8 per cent of the population have completed the second dose.”
