“China and Brunei enjoy a long history of friendship. The traditional friendship between China and Brunei has withstood the test of time and grown even more vigorous. A friend in need is a friend indeed,” said the People’s Republic of China Defence Attaché in Brunei Darussalam Senior Colonel Li Jianzhong.

He said this during a dinner reception held to celebrate the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (CPLA) at The Rizqun International Hotel, Gadong yesterday.

Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof and spouse Datin Hajah Kalshom binti Haji Suhaili were present, joined by Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong.

The event began with the singing of the Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China’s national anthems.

The defence attaché shared on the cooperation between the two countries since the COVID-19 outbreak, including Chinese military aircraft’s delivery of medical supplies donation to Brunei last May, as well as Brunei becoming the fourth country to receive the COVID-19 vaccine donation from China in February, and the successful visit of the Chinese State Councillor and Minister of National Defence General Wei Fenghe in September 2020 which brought new progress in the relations between the two countries and militaries.
