The Museums Department is currently holding an art exhibition at the Art Gallery of the Brunei Malay Technology Museum in Jalan Kota Batu. The exhibition named ‘Trio Battle’ showcases art from the department’s three local artists, two of them highly revered.
Public Relations Officer Mariani binti Haji Abu Bakar said apart from showcasing the department’s talented artists, the exhibition also aims to show the availability of Brunei Museums’ exhibition gallery as an art platform.
She said unlike the past, local artists’ works are valued more due to increased experience and exposure.
“It’s noticeable that there are rising talents in our creative industry. We are seeing more talented youth venturing into this field with the potential to spread their wings internationally and earn thousands of dollars for one painting,” she added.
Trio Battle showcases the works of Osman bin Bakir, Haji Zainudin bin Haji Ibrahim and Muhamad Abdul Wafi bin Haji Mat Salleh.
Among the works on display are the portrait of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam with the monarch’s signature, a portrait of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam and Makan Ambuyat.
The paintings display Bruneian identity and life. Members of the public visiting the exhibition can purchase the paintings on display. Trio Battle runs until the end of October and is open to the public daily during office hours except Mondays, Fridays and public holidays.
