Brunei archer on target with top three finish

Brunei Darussalam’s archer Khairul Ariffin bin Haji Baha secured third place in the men’s recurve category of the 2021 Gold Medalistar X Remote Archery Scoring Challenge recently.

The Setia Bersatu Archery Club member accumulated 534 points behind winner Naveer Fikri bin Zinuldin of Xtend Archery Club who recorded 584 points, and Ariffin bin Sharif of Pemanah Al-Ikhlas Infinity with 551 points.

Meanwhile, local female archer Amal Rashidah binti Haji Yussof claimed fourth place in the women’s recurve category after collecting 400 points.

Twenty-six local archers including nine from Ar-Rafi Archery Brunei competed in the traditional open category, while seven archers registered in the barebow open, six in the recurve open category and three in the compound open category.

Two young archers from Ar Rafi Archery Brunei Mohammad Harith Iskandar bin Mazlan and Nur Sarra’ Batrisyia binti Mazlan also competed in the under-18 traditional category. Setia Bersatu Archery Club’s Ahmad Daniel bin Asmawi joined the under-18 barebow category.

The three-day virtual meet began on January 8 and was organised by Gold Medalistar Archery in collaboration with Pasir Puteh District Education Office and Kelantan State Archery Association.

Pasir Puteh District Education Officer Haji Silmi bin Ismail expressed hopes that archery in Pasir Puteh will continue to grow.

Host Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei participated in the meet.
