British envoy praises Brunei Chevening scholars

The British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Alexandra McKenzie who hosted an inaugural Brunei Chevening Reception recently, celebrating the achievements of the latest Brunei Chevening scholars preparing to study in the United Kingdom (UK), praised the scholars for their resilience and adaptability.

“It is a true privilege to celebrate these exceptional individuals who have excelled academically and embraced the cultural exchange offered by the Chevening programme,” she said.

“They embody the enduring partnership between the UK and Brunei and are poised to become agents of positive change,” the envoy said.

The high commissioner introduced three scholars at the event: Umair Akmal bin Haji Noor Ahsffian, who will pursue an Master of Science (MSc) in Climate Futures: Science, Society and Politics at University of Leeds; Dr Chiao Yuen Lim, who will study MSc in Health Data Analytics and Machine Learning; and Jasmine Kristin Wong Mei Yik, who is set to undertake an LLM in Law and Technology at Queen’s University Belfast.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence (MinDef) Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Alirupendi bin Haji Perudin, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MinDef Poh Kui Choon, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Chin Wei Keh and Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam Chief Executive Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar participated in the event. – James Kon
