AROUND 40 Sultan Sharif Ali Secondary School students from three Year 11 classes attended a briefing titled ‘Industry and Environment’ presented by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) and organised by the school’s Geography Department at the school’s computer lab on Thursday.
Among those present were Deputy Head of Administration Baharin bin Haji Ibrahim and six Geography teachers.
According to a press release, the one-hour briefing aimed to give students exposure to the importance of having an environment that is clean and free of pollution.
The briefing began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by Year 11 Sc1 student Mohammad Aiman bin Johari.
JASTRe’s Environmental Officer Syazwana binti Haji Souyono presented the briefing.
The press release noted that the briefing session explained the rules for controlling air pollution as well as open burning.
Also shared were the effects of pollution from industrial activities on humans and the environment. The session also saw students participating in a quiz session.
The school’s Head of the Geography Department Lim Bee Hong presented a souvenir to the presenter before the event concluded with the recitation of Surah Al-‘Asr.
