The ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Strategy Paper workshop (ADDMM) enables the time and space to further discuss matters pertinent to ASEAN platforms in a manner that is candid, constructive and inclusive, said Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Alirupendi bin Haji Perudin. He said this at the opening of the second workshop on ‘A Future-Ready ADMM and ADMM-Plus: A Strategy Paper’ yesterday. The workshop, jointly organised between the Sultanate and Singapore’s Ministries of Defence, attended by representatives from the ASEAN member states in defence was held at The Rizqun International Hotel. Singapore’s Ministry Defence Director of Defence Policy Office Colonel Phua Jia Kai jointly officiated the workshop.
Delegates from ASEAN member states and the ASEAN Secretariat had the opportunity to engage in a dialogue and exchanged insights on ‘Perspectives on ADMM and ADMM-Plus: Mapping the Future in Regional Dynamics’ presented by Assistant Secretary Southeast Asia, International Policy Division, Australian Department of Defence David Lewis and Indonesia Defence University Professor Anak Agung Banyu Perwita.
The workshop resumed with discussions on ‘Strengthening the ADMM and ADMM-Plus Cooperation: Enhancing Sustainability and Overcoming Challenges’ led by former Permanent Secretary (Defence), Ministry of Defence of Singapore Chiang Chie Foo.
The workshop aims to explore and discuss the evolving role of the ADMM and ADMM-Plus in the current regional dynamics and enhance the cooperation by addressing issues related to sustainability and challenges to promote peace, stability and prosperity. – Fadley Faisal
