In supporting the mission of the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) to become a knowledge hub, the Book Planning Division held a three-day Comic Writing and Drawing Workshop which concluded last Saturday.

The workshop was an activity organised to enliven the Language Month celebrations and was a continuation from the discussion on comics organised on December 4, 2021 in conjunction with the Language Month and Brunei December Festival.

The workshop also served as a platform for local comic enthusiasts to develop skills through learning to write and draw comics in a more directed manner. At the same time, it also served as a medium for brainstorming, skill exchange and experience sharing among cartoonists in the Sultanate as well as acted as a catalyst for the youth to further develop the country’s creative industry to reach the international arena through the publication of comics.

Acting DBP Director Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab in his speech said apart from supporting the bureau’s mission of becoming a knowledge hub, the workshop hoped to assist participants to continuously produce creative works and elevate the local comic industry.

He said the impact from the workshop also aimed to produce more comic writers and artists who are creative, innovative and skilful to polish their potential, and introduce their work in a digitalised form.

Twenty-five individuals took part in the workshop, and 14 group works were produced by participants and guided by Rahim bin Haji Jahit, also known as ‘Cuboi’.

The participants were guided theoretically and practically, especially in producing interesting comic works with excellent storytelling.
