The Brunei History Centre and the Editorial Committee for the book ‘The Journey from Subok: Recollections of Brunei Darussalam’s Diplomats’ was launched on Saturday.
The book is written by eleven authors who are former High Commissioners and Ambassadors of Brunei Darussalam to foreign countries.
The writing of this book serves as a token of appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bokiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, for appointing the authors as High Commissioners and Ambassadors of Brunei Darussalam to foreign countries.
Additionally, the book launch marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministry’s history dates back to 1981, when it was founded as the Department of Diplomatic Services. In 1984, it was upgraded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The book features the experiences of the authors during their tenures as High Commissioners and Ambassadors of Brunei Darussalam to foreign countries, their dedication in fulfilling the responsibilities and trust given to them, as well as the challenges they faced.
All these are shared by the authors as memories in the book. Through the experiences shared by the authors, readers can learn about and understand the role of Brunei Darussalam’s High Commissioners and Ambassadors abroad, as well as their contributions to the country.
Additionally, this book also serves as a reference for the next generation of diplomats. Present as the Guest of Honour to unveil the book was Permanent Secretary (Policy Planning) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Datin Paduka Shazainah bte Pengiran Dato Paduka Sharifuddin. – AZLAN OTHMAN
