The Brunei History Association (PESEBAR) will launch a book entitled Kesultanan Brunei Darussalam (Brunei Darussalam Sultanate) at the Brunei History Centre (PSB) on February 27.
The book published by PESEBAR will be presented to Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Professor (Dr) Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri bin Begawan Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Seri Paduka Haji Awang Umar, PESEBAR Acting President Dr Awang Haji Muhammad Hadi bin Muhammad Melayong told the Bulletin.
He said the main objective of publishing the book was as a mark of respect for the contribution and commitment by Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Professor (Dr) Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri as a pioneer in historical research and writing in Brunei Darussalam.
“His historical research and writings since 1950s has become a resourceful reference for the public and students from primary level to tertiary. His contribution has also benefitted researchers here and overseas,” Dr Haji Muhammad Hadi said.
“In line with this, PESEBAR decided to publish a book inviting local authors in Brunei and overseas to contribute their research and studies not only about Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Professor (Dr) Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri but also other aspects related to Brunei Darussalam’s history,” he said.
According to the Acting President of PESEBAER, the book contains 17 articles with contributions by 15 local writers/authors and two from overseas discussing the aspect of history, economy, education and literature.
“Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Professor (Dr) Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri not only writes about historical matters, but his writings also touch on education, culture, adat istiadat and Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB),” he explained. During the launch, PSB will also sell the book ‘MIB: Amanat 1984’ and an English version of the book containing MIB articles.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin is expected to launch the book as the guest of honour.
