BND35M of infrastructure projects awarded

Six infrastructure projects totalling more than BND35 million were awarded yesterday in a contract and agreement signing ceremony between the Public Works Department (JKR) and private contractors yesterday at the Public Works Department.

The highest value project was the Sultan Hassan Secondary School reconstruction project at BND16,308,152 in Bangar, Temburong District, which will be carried out by LCY Development Sdn Bhd over a period of 15 months.

The school will accommodate 1,200 students and 120 teachers, with seven buildings: the administration block, multipurpose hall, dining hall, surau, library, classrooms and science block.

Meanwhile, a BND8,100,257 project to supply and deliver 35,000 metric tonnes of aluminium sulphate to water treatment plants was awarded to Hj Sanip bin Taram & Anak-Anak Sdn Bhd.

The 30-month long project is for site preparation works for Stage 8 of the construction of the Bukit Barun Water Treatment Plant.

An 18-month-long project to handle earthworks for the water treatment plant in Bukit Barun has also been awarded to Swee Sdn Bhd at BND6,489,759.

The Bukit Barun Water Treatment Plant project aims to add more clean water production capacity for the Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts while also adding flexibility to the existing system. A BND2,062,000 project to add water tanks to Mukim Labu in the Temburong District was awarded to KTH Bersatu Sdn Bhd while a BND1,889,756 project to build water tanks and improve the water pump systems in Kampong Batang Duri was awarded to Amron Contractor Sdn Bhd.

Both projects aimed at improving overall water supply in the area without having to rely too much on the water tank in Pekan Bangar.

Finally a 24-month contract for chlorine system maintenance works for equipment and personal protective equipment for the Brunei-Muara, Tutong and Temburong water treatment plants was awarded to KP Mineral & Chemical (B) Sdn Bhd for BND1,219,389. The contract is for maintenance works of all chlorination equipment, safety equipment and
propulsion systems.

A project consultant, Perundingan Primareka, had also been appointed for earthworks and infrastructure works at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali yesterday.

Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Ir Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar was present to witness the contract signings.

Present to sign the consultant appointment was the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Development (MoD) Ir Haji Amer Hishamuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Zakaria alongside consultant representatives.

Signing for construction projects was Acting Director General of JKR Works Ir Awang Haji Md Salleh bin Haji Abdul Karim, the Director of Development, the Acting Director of Water Services, and representatives of appointed contractors.

Deputy Minister of Development Dato Seri Paduka Ar Awang Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at MoD Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Industry, Construction and Development) at the MoD Hajah Norhayati binti Haji Mohd Yaakub; Deputy Permanent Secretary (Corporate and Law) at the MoD Aldila binti Haji Mohamad Salleh; as well as heads of departments, senior officers, officers and staff at the MoD were also present at the ceremony.
