BND100 fine for littering

A man was slapped with a BND100 fine by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) yesterday for improper disposal of trash on a public street.

Sania bin Haji Junidi was caught on CCTV disposing trash from a parked vehicle onto a parking lot at Kampong Sungai Bunga.

The department imposed the fine under Chapter 12(1) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021, giving the man seven days to settle the fine. Failure to do so will result in the case being brought to court.

If found guilty in court, a fine from BND1,000 to BND3,000 will be issued for the first offence.

Subsequent offences may result in a fine between BND3,000 and BND9,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both. – Daniel Lim
