BMW Golf Cup Brunei 2021 winners crowned

Brunei Darussalam golfer Lai Suan Loong emerged champion of the BMW Golf Cup Brunei 2021 after carding a score of 76 nett at the Royal Brunei Golf and Country Club in Jerudong yesterday.

Bryan Chiew Chun Hao finished as runner-up in the men’s A category after posting a score of 77, with Julian Kamaluddin settling for third place with 83.

Meanwhile, Alias Ramlee won the men’s B category after recording a score of 71 ahead of runner-up Haji Raya Dollah, who pipped third-placed Ali Rahman with a 75 (On Count Back).

Jeffrey Chia emerged winner in the men’s guest category after registering a score of 70 nett.

Dullah Sitai took the runner-up spot with a score of 71 nett (OCB) as Benny Boy Abdul Rahman came third.

In the women’s guest category, Hajah Rusni binti Haji Lamat emerged champion with a score of 81.

Agnes De La Cruz finished runners-up with 83 (OCB) while Enid Wong settled for third place.

Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Haji Mohammed Al-Mokhtar bin Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz, Vice-President of Brunei Darussalam Golf Association (BDGA) attended the prize-giving ceremony at the Royal Berkshire Hall of the Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof presented the prizes.

QAF Auto General Manager Alisa Khoo said, “This marks the first BMW Golf Cup in Brunei after a long while, and now we are back beyond thrilled to meet on the green after the long, unexpected wait.”

The competition was initially scheduled last year but was delayed following the resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

She continued, “BMW Golf Cup International Series first teed off in Germany in 1987 and has since become the world’s most prestigious and successful amateur golf tournament.”

Every year, the competition attracts over 150,000 amateur golfers from over 46 countries and demonstrates the game of golf at the most premium and highest standards.

“The tournament not only celebrates the game of golf, but also gives us the opportunity to deliver unforgettable experiences to our most loyal customers and fans.”

BDGA Honorary Secretary Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Hamid bin Haji Mohd Jaafar, QAF Brunei Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Albert Lau, Baiduri Bank Deputy CEO of Business Development Pengiran Azaleen bin Pengiran Dato Haji Mustapha, and National Insurance Company General Manager Klaus Tomalla also attended.
