Blood donors share experiences and words of encouragement

A donor at the blood donation campaign organised by the Tourism Development Department at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Redzuan Matussin sharing his experiences in donating blood, told the Bulletin yesterday, he started donating blood in 2006, encouraged by family members and friends.

“The first time, I was really nervous when I saw the needle. Fortunately, after several times, I don’t feel nervous anymore. It’s like a normal routine now,” said Redzuan.

“Donating blood is beneficial for our own health. Regular blood donation is linked to lower blood pressure and a reduced risk of heart attacks. Our action also helps save lives by ensuring that Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital maintains a sufficient supply of blood,” he added.

Redzuan’s advice to the public is, “Individuals who don’t have any health complications should contribute and help hospitals in the country ensure a sufficient supply of blood.”

Meanwhile, Kamsiah binti Abdul Karim, also from the ministry said, “My first experience donating blood was during the COVID-19 pandemic when blood supplies were critically low. “My blood is B+ and therefore, I started donating blood every three months. Last year, I had to reduce the frequency of donations because my niece needed my blood for a transfusion after she was diagnosed with thalassemia.”

Her advice to the public is, “Let’s come together to donate blood. One pint of blood can save up to three lives. Insya Allah, I will continue to donate blood for the rest of my life.”- James Kon
