Bleeding for a good cause

A HUNDRED and three pints of blood were collected during a blood donation drive at Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd in Lumut Plant, Belait District on Friday.

The five-hour campaign was jointly-organised by Brunei LNG and Suri Seri Begawan Hospital (SSBH) in Kuala Belait in conjunction with World Cancer Day.

Among those who donated were staff and business partners of Brunei LNG.

Brunei LNG Occupational Health Lead Asli bin Rajap said, “We had a good turnout (today), especially from our business partners. The feedback we received is that they are happy to contribute and help out the local community and, for those who are Muslims, they are also doing good deeds on Friday.”

Phlebotomist Lab Assistant, Blood Bank Unit at SSBH Nurlina binti Edris noted that patients who require blood are those with thalassemia, undergoing surgery and pregnant women who give birth via caesarean.

She thanked Brunei and also advised donors to have enough rest – at least five hours – and a light meal before donating blood.

The blood drive was part of a two-day line-up of activities including a healthy food bazaar, zumba, and jogging to Liang Lumut Recreation Club where part of the proceeds will be donated to a charitable cause.

Supporting the bazaar were members from the Brunei Breast Cancer Support Group.
