Blast in cement factory kills three in Gujarat

NEW DELHI (XINHUA) – At least three workers were killed and a number of others injured yesterday in a blast inside a cement manufacturing plant in the western Indian state of Gujarat, police said.

The blast took place at Patidad village in Rajkot district, about 285 kilometres southwest of Gandhinagar, the capital city of Gujarat.

“Today a blast took place inside a cement factory in which three workers were killed and some injured,” a police official in Rajkot said.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that during the welding at the factory, the sparks caused a blast in the storage structure, following which workers were caught underneath its debris.”

The injured, according to the police, were rushed to a hospital. Police have registered a case and ordered an investigation into the accident.
