THE Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Edition of Brunei Bird Race Series (BBRS) 2019 organised by the Tourism Development Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) with the support of government agencies and partners was held at The Capital Residence Suites yesterday.
The flag-off of the BBRS 2019 was officiated by guest of honour Permanent Secretary at the MPRT Pengiran Haji Kamalrudzaman bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Ishak.
The BBRS 2019 is a series of four bird race competitions to take the most number of photographs of bird species within the identified bird-watching locations starting at Bandar Seri Begawan.
According to Pengiran Haji Kamalrudzaman, the MPRT intends to develop the BBRS event in stages, starting as an annual event and then to an international level with support from relevant partners.
He explained that the BBRS aims to improve the available data and identification of bird species at bird-watching locations in each district.
This will also help stakeholders in their efforts to upgrade infrastructure and facilities for bird-watching tourism such as creating monitored bird-watching trails with directional and information signage, bird-watching e-brochures and more.
The BSB Edition of the BBRS 2019 received 15 entries from all four districts.
Each participant received a certificate of participation, a BBRS 2019 T-shirt, Bird watching in Brunei guidebook 2016 edition, published by the Tourism Development Department, and souvenirs from sponsors.
The next edition of the BBRS 2019 will be at Tasek Merimbun Heritage Park in Tutong District.
It is scheduled to be held in July 2019.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Tourism) of MPRT, heads of department and division within MPRT and representatives from strategic partner agencies, private sector and non-governmental organisations were also present.
The names of the winners will be released at a later date on Facebook page: Brunei Bird Race Series and Instagram @bruneibirdraceseries.
