BIG holds annual general meeting

The Brunei Institution of Geomatics (BIG) held its 15th annual general meeting (AGM) at the Higher Hotel in Kiulap on Sunday, attended by members and invited guests interested in joining the institution.

President of BIG Haji Ali Bakar bin Haji Kasim, in his welcoming speech, thanked the attendees for participating in the AGM.

He also congratulated council members for their efforts in organising programmes and events, while highlighting the publication of BIG newsletter, which shared members’ activities and researches.

A diploma presentation was also held for four newly promoted fellows including Surveyor General at the Survey Department at the Ministry of Development Haji Arefin bin Haji Jaya, nine new professional members comprising officers from public and private sectors as well as a new graduate member.

Promotion to the class of fellow must satisfy the requirements set by the constitution and by-laws of the institution where the member shall be over 35 years, shall have acquired a practical knowledge of geomatics, shall have had not less than five years of professional experience after being elected as a member of the institution and that the member has received the approval of the council.

The meeting also saw the approval of minutes from the last AGM, followed by reports from council members.

The meeting ended with the announcement of the election results for new council members of its 2021-2023 session. Haji Ali Bakar was elected to continue serving as the president for the second term while Haji Mohd Don bin Haji Omar was named vice president, Haji Mahadi bin Haji Mohd Tahir secretary general and Nor Liza binti Haji Mohd Daud as treasurer.
