Undeterred by the darkness, Marine Police personnel of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) conducted an operation in the waterways of Pulau Keinggaran and foiled a smuggling attempt on Friday night where they seized 1,800 cartons of cigarettes, 1,680 cans of beer and 60 bottles of liquor.

The officers on noticing the suspicious boat, chased and found it abandoned at Kampong Pengkalan Sibabau.

The police personnel who inspected the boat with its engine still running, seized the contraband believed to be from a neighbouring country. The driver of the boat had managed to escape.

The contraband and the boat were transported to the Marine Police and the case transferred to the Royal Customs and Excise Department for further action.

The RBPF said in a statement that it will continue to conduct patrols to curb smuggling activities.
