    BICTA 2019 winners awarded

    The winners of the Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA) 2019 in the School, Tertiary Project and ICT Industry categories were announced at the awards presentation ceremony at the Core Residential College of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) yesterday.

    Guest of honour Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof presented the prizes.

    In the School category, Ma’had Islam Brunei took the first prize of BND3,000 for their ‘Rubbish on Demand (ROD)’ product.

    The second prize of BND2,000 was won by Berakas Secondary School (SMB) for their Personal Mobile Medical Assistance (PMMA) product, while Chung Hwa Middle School BSB received the third prize of BND1,000 for their Tyran Maton product.

    In the Tertiary Project category, the main winner of the BND7,000 prize was UBD for their ‘Medicine Dispenser’.

    Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) took second and third places for that category, receiving BND3,500 for their Stroke Recovery Tool and BND1,750 for their Automated Paddy Watergate and Water Distribution Through Alternate Wetting and Drying System.

    In the ICT Industry category, Muappy Company took the cash prize of BND10,000 for their Muappy product. Buycour won the second prize of BND5,000 for their Buycour product, while AIW Enterprise received the third prize of BND2,500 for their Pingus product.

    The ceremony also witnessed the presentation of Special Awards to Flipidea with their Flipidea product in the ‘Research and Development Project’, and the Ministry of Defence with its SCANEAT product for ‘Big Data Analytics Technology’.

    Earlier, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohd Yusof, as Co-Chairman I of BICTA 2019 Steering Committee said in his welcoming remarks that BICTA was able to gauge more participation this year from government schools, tertiary education institutions and the ICT industry.

    During the event, the minister also launched a new mobile app called TransportBN, containing convenient links to help the public access information on the demerit point system, Drive Safety Practice System (SiKAP) and public transportation, as well as assisting in the renewal of driving and vehicle licences.

    Later, the minister toured a display of products by the BICTA 2019 winners and runners-up.

    Winners and runners-up in each category of BICTA 2019 will be nominated to represent Brunei Darussalam at the Asia-Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2019, to be held in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam from November 18-23.
